Marcus Roberts always amazes me with his fine arrangements and this album is no exception. The textures of the music embellish the various moods he develops, from Eastern to swing to soulful romance. The band is exceptional and the inter-connection between the players is fantastic.5/5(8).

Mar 11,  · Roberts is in fine form. His silky smooth piano playing on Nebuchadnezzar and Spiritual Awakening to his mesmerizing piano skipping on The Governor, E. Dankworth and Deep in the Shed are wonderful. The solo pieces are pure fun. Soak in this album. It's romance and swing. It's great jazz.5/5(7).

Feb 04,  · The album Marcus Roberts recreated from start to finish at the Allen Room is 18 years old, but its mannerisms don’t come from any particular era.

Well, seeing this album without a review is an amazing experience. Everything on this record is pure perfection, melodies, solos group interaction. This is a deep (in the shed) look at the blues in all it's glorious forms. Maybe Soul Gestures 3: Levee Low Moan is the only album to surpass this in feeling. Get it and learn something.5/5(3).
